His aesthetic is reflective of his background as a graphic designer, with traditional design elements and principals at the core of each piece.
Nico’s main goal in life is to bring a positive change to the urban landscape and broader society via the creation and dissemination of uplifting artwork. And we think you’ll agree he’s well on track!
What's your dream project or brand to work on?
This is a tough one because there are so many! I'm a self-confessed foodie and I absolutely love making artwork for the food and beverage space. I think I'd have to say more drink-related projects please!
What do you see trending in illustration this year?
I feel that we are currently seeing so many great images every day across all channels that even the idea of ‘visual trends’ is changing. Rather than seeing a particular style that everyone jumps on for a month or two, I think the big thing at the moment is brands favouring thoughtful, unique and well-crafted illustration across all of their touch points, in order to connect with their audience in a way that is human and meaningful.
Gone are the days of slapping a stock image or a piece of clip-art onto something and hoping people will dig it – that just won't cut it anymore! For me, if a brand isn't working hard to make all of my interactions with them fun and engaging, they are falling behind the pack. I think now more than ever, people want to connect with the products and brands that they support and illustration is a great way to foster this connection.
Name your top three Instagram accounts to follow?
Another toughie! I'm going to go with @itsnicethat @thedesignfiles and @behance – enjoy!
In the future all art is destroyed, and you can only save one piece – what would it be?
PROUD DAD ALERT! It would be the first artwork my son ever made. In my eyes, it's the greatest piece ever produced!
